Darkroom to Digital
As
a dyed in the wool B&W darkroom guy, how I have changed to digital,
the road to getting the same or better results than I did in the darkroom.
I will be showing Traditional darkroom prints and new digital ones.How the digital age has changed my way of working. No more sore legs standing in the darkroom, just a sore back from sitting at the computer!!!
Biography
Gerry Coe is a Portrait photographer, with a studio in Belfast,
Northern Ireland . Specialising in mostly B&W portraits of children
and families. He has been a professional photographer for over 40 years,
“and still knows nothing!!!”
He has been awarded some of Photography’s highest honours and is a Fellow of The Royal Photographic Society, (FRPS), The British Inst. of Professional Photography, (FBIPP) and received “The Peter Grugeon Award, for the best Fellowship Panel of the Year” from the BIPP, and also the Master Photographers Assoc.(FMPA).
He has won multiple awards from Agfa, Fuji, Kodak, been overall winner of the MPA awards of excellence categories, B&W Photographer of the Year, Under 5’s Photographer of the year, and Pictorial & Illustrative Photographer of the Year.
His
personal and professional work, has been mostly B&W, and up until
recently all hand printed in the darkroom. Now he has gone “Digital”
but he is still printing all his own work with a dedicated B&W printer
using Pure Carbon inks. Now that he can control all his own colour he
has started to print his own “Artworks”.
These are a mix of the strong and bright colours of a poster and the blocks of colour associated with screen prints. He is also influenced by Japanese wood block prints of which he is a collector.
All the images are in small limited editions of between 3 & 15 prints. Some of the images are made using a mixed media of Crayon, Watercolour & Digital
Gerry’s Fine Art prints have been displayed by the Royal Ulster
Academy (equivalent to the Royal Academy in England) at the prestigious
Ulster Museum, in Belfast. He has had many exhibitions both group
and solo. His prints have sold at Bonhams, and Fine Art
auctions in England. And his work hangs in many private collections.
