Biography
Jane
Conner-ziser combines an extensive background in fine arts (she started
receiving formal training in classical drawing and painting at the age of
7), photography and photographic art with specialized training in digital
technology. She is an accomplished photographer, photographic artist and
retoucher, restoration artist, and fine artist – with both traditional
and digital media. She is considered to be one of the most talented and
versatile people in the professional portrait and wedding photography
industry.
Jane owns and operates Jane Conner-ziser’s Digital Art School in Ormond Beach, Florida, where students come from all over the world to learn retouching, enhancement and fine art painting with Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter. Jane also does on site training and you will find her listed as a popular instructor and presenter at accredited schools of professional photography and professional photography associations throughout the United States and abroad.
Jane is a member of the Professional Photographers of America and has served as Co-Chair on their Digital and Advanced Technologies Committee. She is a frequent contributor of educational materials for trade publications and association newsletters.
Software
Cinema, the industry’s most prestigious producer of professional
educational CD’s produces Jane’s CD’s on Photoshop and Painter. She
has been working with digital imaging for sixteen years and worked with
Kodak and the Professional Photographers of America to find practical and
profitable uses for the technology which resulted in the industry’s
first program on Digital Imaging For The Professional Studio Photographer.
Since 1988, Jane has been an independent educator, writer, and consultant to the professional photography industry. Her areas of expertise are varied. She has helped many colour labs, large and small, transition from traditional to digital including help with equipment, internal training, product development, and customer communication and education pieces. For other companies, Jane researches practical technology applications for their market, including digital imaging, Internet, and in-studio methods of effectively showing and selling photography with digital technology. Jane has lectured in every state throughout the U.S. as well as in the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and New Zealand.
Prior
to 1988, Jane provided consulting services and specialized traditional art
services to professional photography studios. Her freelance art studio
specialized in exhibition retouching and artistic presentation of
photographs for high profile photographers and also specialized art
services to professional colour labs, including repair of photographs made
from damaged film and jobs that were out of system retouching projects.
Her restoration work included “heavy oil” paintings, restorations of
early colour photographs and archival restorations for museums.
Jane has broadened her knowledge of photography by studying with many of the most respected professionals in the industry including such masters as Al Gilbert, William McIntosh, Frank Cricchio, Don Blair, and Jay Stock.
She has acquired her computer knowledge through educational classes and research projects with the Centre For Creative Imaging, Eastman Kodak, Canon, Dicomed, Photo Electronics Corporation, and the numerous colour labs she has worked with. Jane is fluent on PhotoShop, Corel Painter, Barco Creator and uses Bryce, Poser and Kai Power Tools. She is also fluent on Art Leather’s Montage, Hicks Pro Shots, and Marathon Press’s MPP Internet Marketing software.
Jane has written for many of the industry's top publications including Photo Electronic Imaging, The World’s Greatest Storytellers (Professional Photographers of America), the Rangefinder, Lens Magazine, and the Florida Photographer.
In 1984, Jane spent six months in New Zealand with Chromatek
Laboratories. She designed and implemented the first art department within
a professional portrait lab in New Zealand. As a result of Jane's visit,
all aspects of photographic art and retouching were for the first time
commercially available to the professional photographers of New Zealand.
In 1990 Jane integrated her teaching and lecturing talents and her extensive knowledge of the professional colour lab with Industry Analysts Inc. She was a program facilitator for their highly praised training program "Lab Management for Increased Productivity", an intensive Kodak sponsored four day training program designed to improve the management skills of the photo lab manager.
In 1992, a consulting project with Dicomed, one of the most respected imaging manufacturers in the world, resulted in her designing for them their single image retouching software for the Portia Retouching System.
Jane's engaging style, impressive knowledge of the material, and her clear, innovative presentations make her one of the most significant teachers, consultants and lecturers in the industry today.
