So then - "Lifestyle" - what's all that about then? Something new? I am delighted to tell you that as far back as 1989 I would shoot the formals on a Hassie, while my assistant ran round with a Nikon shooting candids. I suspect most regular wedding photographers have done the same - many for years even before I started.
I am finding that almost all clients now want a "modern" presentation such as a storybook or mantage album of some kind. Indeed, those returning to order albums from 2 years ago are converting to this form of presentation.
As for the shoot, it has always been the same, one doing formal, one doing candids, plus I mess about a bit as well and try something "different" in terms of shooting angle or composition.
But just to desaturate and tip an image over 15% to try to make it look special (normally because they have overexposed it and can't get the skin tones right) and call it "lifestyle".
I don't think so!
