I particularly enjoy photographing people, a love I developed as a teenager back in the 1970's working alongside my father. He was an amateur photographer at the time and often took me with him to take photographs at numerous events, which gave me the opportunity to develop my skills capturing people on film in everyday situations and surroundings. I have had various commissions over the last couple of years for portrait and glamour work but the frustrations of finding a suitable studio at a reasonable price led me to build my own purpose-built studio in my back garden last summer. I intend improving on the lighting kit/backdrops/props I currently use over the next 12 months but it is now a fully functional studio. Over the past 18 months I've also been improving my skills in low light work, primarily in the theatre. I've covered 6 local theatre productions in that time and really like the challenge the lighting (or lack of) brings to capturing the drama of the actors faces and actions against a backdrop of often stark/simple scenery. I should add that I'm very comfortable working in Photoshop and have no hang-ups about 'improving/enhancing' a photo on the computer, if required. To me it's no different from the techniques I employed in my Father's darkroom using an enlarger, different papers, numerous props and various chemicals.
