How long interested in photography: 22 years How I got started: I used to work in the music industry, in recording and mastering studios and one day my wife said she had found me hobby, I hadn’t realised I was actually looking for a hobby!!! I then found out it was photography and I joined “The St Helens Camera Club" .I progressed from level to level, winning local, regional and national competitions and around 1998 I decided to specialise in wildlife and natural history, especially British subjects. My greatest moment? Throughout the years that followed I continued to progress until late 2003 when I won first prize in an international wildlife competition which took on an, “all expenses paid” trip to the Falkland Islands. This was nothing short of awesome, the trip of a life-time. I came with 3500 35mm transparencies. Following my success and the publicity gained at the time, I decided to sell my company in the music industry and work as a professional wildlife and natural history photographer. What equipment do I use? All my camera gear is by “Canon”, with “Elinchrom Lighting” for my studio, and “Stealth-Gear” outdoor clothing and hides, Lowepro Backpacks and accessories, along with many other bits and pieces. Have I had any articles published? Since my decision to turn pro I have had work published in: Photography Monthly, Canon Eos, Outdoor Photography, SWPP, calendars, and some specialist books. Who sells my work? I have various agencies who represent my work, some of which include Getty Images, Oxford Scientific Films, Photoshoot, Social Stock, Infocado and Javea Photo’s in Spain. What else do I do? Every year I organise and run a series of courses and workshops primarily targeted at the beginners, amateur and intermediate photographers. There are two points I guarantee with every course and workshop, this being you will certainly improve your techniques and secondly you will have fun. Every month, (or as near as I can) I publish a free newsletter of what I have been doing, what has recently been happening and what I have planned for the future. Who inspires me? I have been inspired by two photographers Art Wolfe and Arthur Morris as well as it being a sincere wish of mine to be able to contribute something to the survival of the natural world, hopefully before I leave it. Favourite Locations? Anywhere which gives me the opportunity to absorb the space and subjects of the natural world and its species, and if at all possible capture the moment with my camera. Interest other than photography? My family, local heritage, and walking John is also a member of SINWP Wildlife Nature Still-life Wildlife images More Photographers around Merseyside Photographers in Prescot There are 227 days to get ready for the SWPP Convention and Trade Show at The Hilton London Metropole Hotel ...
