Type business: Full Time Professional Photographer My photographic style: Whatever you want it to be. I try and tailor my style to what you want and what suits your wedding. I typically do a mix of photo journalism and contemporary staged photography. I unobtrusively catch the moments of the day. I will usually take a few formal portraits in the morning, then a 15 or 20 minute photo shoot of just the two of you, which although staged, I keep very laid back and informal. Each couple is different and I adjust the mix of what I do to what you want and what feels right for your wedding. My greatest strengths: Being able to fit into your wedding in a friendly and unobtrusive way, keeping the day running smoothly, staying calm under pressure, and obviously catching "those" treasured moments. I have been in photography: I have been shooting weddings since my 15th Birthday, but professionally since 2002, and full time since 2006. How I got started in photography: I have had a camera since I was a small child and have always loved photography. Like a lot of little girls, I have always loved weddings. I was a bridesmaid on my 15th birthday and, to my mother's horror, went through 10 rolls of film in one day! I was a guest at two weddings in the USA in 2001. In both cases, I was staying with the bride, so I was there in the morning when they were getting ready. I had my camera and did what came naturally - taking the photos that I would want if it had been my wedding. I loved it and, more to the point, my friends were over the moon with my pictures, preferring them to the stuffy formal ones that the "professional" had taken. My photographic skills: Knowing and understanding weddings and having a good eye for upcoming or unanticipated moments and details. I am very good at putting people at ease, making them feel relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera, thus achieving natural, relaxed looking images. I am currently in the process of planning my own wedding, and have realised that having someone taking the photos that I am comfortable and relaxed around and who is going to be good fun on the day is really important. My personality: Cheerful, bubbly, polite, reliable, relaxed, laid back, enthusiastic, passionate, romantic, sentimental. Geographic areas I cover: I am based in Twickenham, south west London and I predominately cover London, Middlesex, Surrey, Hampshire, Sussex and Berkshire. I am more than happy to go further afield, though may ask for travel expenses. I love to shoot destination weddings, and have photographed as far away as Scotland, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, America, and Canada. Venues I frequently attend: I have several local venues that I photograph regularly including Pembrook Lodge, The Bingham Hotel, Richmond Hill Hotel, Kew Gardens, Frensham Heights and Roehamphton University. I don't have a preference in venue as such. I love classical stately homes, and castles, as I love history. You know that with an amazing venue it's going to be easy to get beautiful pictures, but I also love the challenge of an inner-city or modern venue, where you really have to think on your feet to get the good and edgy shots. My favourite venue recently has been Wilton's Music Hall just behind the Tower of London. (and, obviously, I am never going to say no to a beach wedding in the Caribbean!) I found inspiration from: Couples in love, having fun on their special day. From a photography standpoint, I am most inspired by Jose Villa, Joe Bussink, Jeff Carrillo, Marcus Bell and, last but by no means least, my mentor Dennis Orchard - all very emotional and natural photographers. Success in photography: My biggest achievement was coming third in the premier category at WPPI Las Vegas (which, out of hundreds of entries, and only two amazing photographers - Jesh De Rox and Catherine Hall - ahead of me, was a really big deal). It is an international competition, judged by a panel of the world's leading photographers. I achieved 8 gold rosettes that year, with another 5 gold rosettes the following year (including 5th place in the bridal category) When I first started, I got my Licentiate with the SWPP. I have also been featured a couple of times on Wedding TV. Photographic training: I am predominately self taught. However I did an unofficial 2 year apprenticeship with Dennis Orchard, second shooting on a lot of his weddings, as well as working with several of his friends in the industry. I attend a lot of lectures, and every year go out to Las Vegas for WPPI, where I attend 4 days worth of lectures from speakers form all over the world. I also work behind the scenes at the competition, so have 2 solid days of watching some of the best work in the world being critiqued by top photographers. It is also the best form of exposure to all the latest work and trends in social photography. My interests outside photography: There is not a lot of time left over for other interests, as running my own business is very time consuming. However I am heavily involved in our local Shakespeare theatre, as my Fiancé is an actor there, so I photograph all the shows, and am generally involved in a behind the scenes manor. I Still love to travel, though don't get as much time as I would like to do so. It sounds dull, but spending time with my friends and family is what is most important to me. Major events: I am currently planning my own wedding for next summer in Italy. It has been really interesting to be on the other side of it, and I am loving it - years worth of ideas finally all coming together! Why I like the SWPP: The contact it gives me with other photographers, with whom I can share ideas and advice. The opportunity to see some of the best photographers from around the world lecture locally. Tagline: Photography by a friend. Future plans: To expand the children and family side of my business, whilst consolidating my wedding portfolio.
