I wrote numerous feature stories which I also wanted to illustrate myself to capture it as I saw it so I enrolled in a full-time 10-month photography program and changed my shift to nights so I could go to school in the day. I traded writing for photography to tell the story. My photographic skills: I like the business side of photography in addition to both studio and outdoor location work. Having a writing background is also helpful. I also exercise empathy, patience and compassion. My personality: I'm a let's get things done kind of person who loves people. Being a type A personality and perfectionist, means my clients get a great product and service that isn't compromised. Geographic areas I cover: Primarily my hometown of Victoria although I have travelled internationally for shoots. Venues I frequently attend: I love a natural, outdoor setting by the ocean. I found inspiration from: I'm greatly inspired by beauty of all descriptions, natural and man-made but particularly revel in the wonders of mother nature. Success in photography: I have entered competition since I started in photography and have always placed in the ribbon category and have won major trophies as well. Photographic training: Graduated from the Western Academy of Photography in 1990 and learned tons by being a member of the Professional Photographers of Canada and WPPI. Attending conventions and real life experience has been the best teacher. My interests outside photography: Art, history, music, dance, environmental and social causes. Major events: I'm currently developing a strategy to unite people to invest their creativity in helping each other and this planet through a website currently under construction known as Creatively United for the Planet. Future plans: I want to dedicate more time to seeing Creatively United for the Planet become a go to resource for others, like myself, who want to make a difference in the world and be a part of a collective community. And finally: I'm looking forward to experiencing SWPP.
