Hayley Madden has an Exhibition here. Type business: Full Time Professional Photographer My photographic style: Documentary with spontaneous and casual portraits. My greatest strengths: Discrete, unobtrusive, the client comes first. I have been in photography: Aspiring enthusiast since 1989, full time professional since 1995 How I got started in photography: Aspiring enthusiast - A manual Praktica SLR, 50mm lens and a Paterson Darkroom in a box. Full time professional - Nikon 801s, two F2.8 zooms and a SB26. My photographic skills: Low light photography (years of photographing concerts and conferences), fitting in (I'm a personality thief) and Darkroom skills - traditional and digital. (I trained at The Independent in their darkrooms). My personality: Aggressive, selfish and unsociable (just ask my long suffering partner). My camera keeps me calm and in touch with the real world. I've also got a few friends because of it. Geographic areas I cover: The UK. Venues I frequently attend: Ones that are a challenge. I had to photograph a wedding at St. John's College, Cambridge. They wouldn't close the chapel to the public - University policy - so I had to get all the intimate shots and show the gorgeous setting whilst avoiding the gaping general public. I found inspiration from: Other visual arts - painting, dance, sculpture, movies. Success in photography: Landing a job with the NME after pestering them for 6 months. Working with the Mayor of London for the whole of his term of office and keeping my contract even with the change of leadership. Working with BMG Records and keeping my job when it got bought out by SONY. Commissioned for every Glastonbury since 1995 - rain or shine. I'm a sticker. Photographic training: BTEC ONC and HNC. Studied for this part time whilst working at nights as a croupier to raise money and working as a darkroom assistant at The Independent. Sometimes I only got two hours sleep a night, and I slept on my partner's office floor to save travel time. It is an interesting experience to fall asleep standing up whist dealing blackjack. My interests outside photography: Face painting, the environment and conservation. Major events: My son being born. A cliché, but only a week before he was due to be born I was still calling my mother saying "..but what happens to it when it arrives - where does it go, what does it do...?" I thought I'd never be a natural mother but now I can't imagine life without him. Aaah! Photographing the Royal Opening of City Hall. The lifts were all kept free for The Queen and her entourage so the webcam team and I had to run up and down eight floors via the spiral staircase. Aargh! My first wedding. I was terrified. Testimonials: "What can I say? I'm in tears! The pictures are so wonderful... it's like re-living the day all over again! Thank you so much! You have done the most wonderful job!'".. Email from Debbie "I was going to email you earlier but I've spent all morning pouring over the pics! They are all wonderful! Thank you so much. They really capture the day"...Email from Emma "Thank you so much for taking the photos at our wedding - you were the perfect wedding photographer and the photos look fab!"...Email from Amy "your photos are fabulous and we still look through them all often and marvel at how you managed to capture the essence of the day so brilliantly."...email from Barbara "I've met a few wedding photographers I honestly think you're head and shoulders above them in being professional and friendly, and of course taking fantastic and original photos."...email from Alex "Photos safely received this morning. Many thanks once again. If I hear from anyone needing a photographer, I shall not hesitate in recommending you! The service has been brilliant".. Email from Gary "Saturday was fabulous and thanks to you for helping to take some of pressure away by 'doing your stuff'. People have been nothing but complimentary about you - I'm pretty sure they'll be even more impressed once they see the pics. So thanks a million for being so amazing at what you do"....Email from Simon Why I like the SWPP BPPA: Motivation. Seeing other people's work. The opportunity to learn more. The trade show and convention - shall I go on... Tagline: I steal souls for a living. Future plans: To improve my photography, particularly weddings, and my business skills. And finally: I asked my 6 year old son if he'd like to be a photographer when he grows up. 'No mummy', he said with disdain ' that's a girl's job!'. Hayley Madden Qualification Panel.
