Gary Micklethwaite photographer in West Yorkshire Full Time Professional My photographic style: Relaxed, natural and spontaneous My greatest strengths: being able to pull off some great images even when the odds maybe stacked against me - for instance in poor weather conditions etc. Also being able to help nervous brides relax and not worry about being photographed. I have been in photography: for around 18 years How I got started in photography: A passion for photography passed on by my father who was a keen amateur. He gave me my first camera when I was 11 years old. My photographic skills: the ability to produce great results under pressure, making sure all wedding guests enjoy themselves and have fun whilst photography is taking place, not being invasive, and being polite at all times remembering who's day this is - the bride & Groom's - not the photographers! My personality: Outgoing, friendly, polite, and willing to please Geographic areas I cover: mostly in Yorkshire but have completed assignments when requested nationally Venues I frequently attend: venues of note local to my studio are Holdsworth House, Rudding Park and Allerton Castle. However it is the people that make a wedding - the venue is secondary. I found inspiration from: The great photojournalists such as Cartier-Bresson and more recently Jeff Ascough and Australian photographer Marcus Bell. Success in photography: Winner of various awards nationally and locally - Yorkshire photographer of the year Photographic training: Constant assessment of trends within photography and learning new skills from other top professionals around the world My interests outside photography: I like walking in the countryside (with a camera of course!), also cycling and sailing. Travelling to other countries to experience their culture Major events: Getting married myself in 2003! It as an interesting and educational experience being on the other side of the table!
