Other areas that I try to perfect are nature shots where I take close up photography of flowers and plants. My greatest strengths: Good communicator and try to give the customer what they want whilst making suggestions on areas of photography that they may not have thought of. I have been in photography: On a part time basis about 18 months but have been taking involved in "hobby" photography for a lot longer. How I got started in photography: Having being the family photographer for many years taking photographs at many family gatherings, Christmas etc I purchased my first digital SLR about 2 years ago having used compacts for a few years. I was asked by a friend to do some advertising photographs and then a friend of the family asked for me to do a wedding as the main photographer. The rest is history although I only work on a part time basis and have another job as a research engineer. My photographic skills: I am an user of Photoshop and other digital imaging software and use these skills to create advertising material for customers. Photography obviously where I use Photoshop where necessary. I am an engineer, which although I haven't targeted my skills to as yet have knowledge of the construction and steel industries. My personality: I am sometimes described as a father figure, "Uncle Phil" to some because I always try to pass on my knowledge to others where I can help. Very sociable sort of person who likes to work with others. Geographic areas I cover: Currently based around South Yorkshire but I am sure that as I develop I will spread my wings. Venues I frequently attend: In terms of weddings I actually prefer non-church weddings because there is more freedom to get up close to the bride and groom. I found inspiration from: Other photographers. I don't have an issue with studying how others have composed and taken their shots. I am always willing to learn and improve. Success in photography: Only just started to enter competitions. Photographic training: No official photographic qualification but attended a number of training courses with the Peak district Photography centre (Wedding and Portrait course, Colour management). Personal education to Post Graduate level (Engineering). My interests outside photography: I play Crown Green bowls competitively and support my local football team. I enjoy walking especially out of town where there is plenty of fresh air! Take my camera with me of course. Major events: Family man with three children and two grand children. Need I say more :-) Testimonials: None written at this time but have had repeat business from a number of customers so I must be doing something right. Why I like the SWPP BPPA: Learning from others, understanding that there are other people in a similar position as myself (new to the industry). The Forum is packed with knowledge form others. The books are excellent and have bought quite a few to help with my wedding work. Tagline: If you don't ask you don't get Future plans: To undertake more wedding work but to maybe investigate how to make money through my flower photography. I intend to remain part time in the short term. And finally: A new photographer trying to turn a passion into something that earns money to pay for the passion. I only shoot digital and have little knowledge about film photography. I currently shoot with a Nikon D300.
