He has a certificate in Commercial Art and Diploma in Fashion Design from London Schools and earned an Associate award with Britain's Master Photographers Association, which registered him as a Master Photographer and permits him the letters AMPA. He has been awarded the Accolade of Photographic Master(APM), 1998, the Accolade of Outstanding Photographic Achievement (AOPA), 1999 and in 2000, the Accolade of Lifetime Photographic Excellence in Recognition of Contribution to the Industry (ALPE), all by Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI). He has been awarded a Fellowship with the Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers (FSWPP), and Technical Fellowship with Chicagoland Professional Photographers Association (FCPPA). In competition with his peers he has collected over 150 ribbons, plaques, cups and trophies. These include, 6 times the CPPA Print of the Year Award, the Harry Hoyt Portrait Award 4 times and the Handelman Wedding Print Award 4 times. He has 4 times won the CPPA Sweepstakes Award given to the photographer accumulating the most points in annual competition. Norman has also won no less than 12 Best of Show ribbon in local, regional and state competitions. He has also been awarded the CPPA Man of the Year Award and twice a President's Award for services to the association. Norman has served as President of the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce and has been on its board of directors for 9 years. He was instrumental in implementing the city-recycling program.
