Portrait photography

Freelance photographer - extensive travel also working as photojournalist - now taken early retirement concentrating on my own form as a photographer for life style portraiture all ages, mostly on location; to include weddings, baptisms/christenings, family events, school and college proms etc..

Full Time Professional Photographer

My photographic style: Close and warm personal interface with my customers - offering lifestyle portrait, wedding, bridal, model portfolio, glamour and implied nude figure/art photography. Photo workshops for beginners also available. Set close to the New Forest on the Hampshire/Dorset borders.

My greatest strengths: Relaxed and informal. Portraiture, for children, personal life style or bridal is the main theme for my photography; time spent with a client before the shoot, to get to know their ways and moods is an invaluable tool to success on the day...the portrait has to be meaningful to the client and created from the heart of the photographer.

I have been in photography: I was always passionate about photography and have been semi pro for some years and since returning to the UK have re-launched myself full time with my own photographic business.

How I got started in photography: Born in the UK, but extensive travel and living in many countries of this amazing world for over 40 years, from South America to the Far East has allowed me the privilege to meet some incredible and inspiring indigenous peoples, in their own culture. During these periods I dedicated a lot of time to capturing images of location and portraits on film and submitting these images with articles about the culture and life relevant to that country, to the local press and magazines. Part of that journey took me to Borneo during the 1970/80's, where I lived for over 10 years. It was there that I had most of my works published illustrated with my images, both in the Brunei and Singapore press and the magazine of RBA, the flagship airline of Brunei.

Working part time also as the schools photographer for Muara, my small village in Brunei, I further developed (no pun intended) my deep love for photography; setting up a home made mini studio along with a dedicated dark room, my spare time was split between my wife and growing family ( an on-hand source for portraits) and my photo-journalistic work. My arrival home in 2011 to the UK has not permitted me the time to digitize all of my older working images for display on my UK site; they are currently confined to negative and slide files ready for digitizing at a later stage to a separate site.

My photographic skills: Managing to fully involve my clients with the planning and execution of our joint ideas for the shoot, making the whole day pleasurable and memorable. I work easily with children and adults alike.

My personality: I have been described as highly personable, gregarious and articulate - fortunately not that garrulous but more interested in listening.

Geographic areas I cover: Although based in the New Forest, I am willing to travel anywhere in the UK for the occasion of meeting clients and making their day special - having spent my whole life traveling the world and taking images, I see no reason for myself to draw that to a close and would consider most global commissions, given the opportunity to shoot.

Venues I frequently attend: I am happy with almost any location - if it is for portrait or wedding photography I prefer the venue to be one that the customer may feel comfortable and 'at one' with, this will enable me to draw out and capture the true person in front of my lens. I like shooting out of the home or studio, looking for great backdrops and plenty of natural light..

I found inspiration from: I am inspired in life by my children, I guess it should be the other way round but they are such wonderful free spirits with great, caring and loveable characters that touches each person they meet. I am inspired in Photography by Denis Lau and Andre Kertesz, both very individual styles.

Success in photography: I am mostly self taught over almost 35+ years with my photographic work, moving from film to digital was not a seamless operation, but I have taken several residential courses in the software applications and digital theory that governs this new photographic medium. In this day when photography is an available tool for the masses, one has to remain in front of the crowd with understanding and ability, not just a weekend digital jockey.

Photographic training: I have recently completed and passed a full diploma course with the Institute of Photography.

My interests outside photography: Besides more photography, my interests are with my wife and out time together and my rescue dog Nutmeg, who I took under my wing when she presented herself as a stray when I was working in Greece but is now with us in the UK - she gets me out for my other love of walking in the New Forest.

Major events: Meeting my wife to be at a time when I was a dedicated bachelor - the birth of my 2 kids that although grown and flown, still hang around the nest at times.

Testimonials: I guess I need to start asking for some testimonials.

Why I like the SWPP: The SWPP provides me with the platform to reach not only a wide field of potential clients but also puts me in touch with other professional photographers which is an important asset for staying abreast of trends and issues that affect us all. The SWPP also offers me the opportunity to grow in my professional ability with their no nonsense mentoring programme, really a great tool

Tagline: I don't do stress...

Future plans: To keep taking photos for as long as my eyes see an image that is worthy of capture.
