Brian Wilson has an Exhibition here. Brian Wilson is a society, social photographer with clients in the UK, USA and Australia. He specialises in Wedding, Travel, Sports, Streetlife and Life Event images and is a contributor to photographic publications and competitions Type business: Semi Professional My photographic style: Modern, contemporary and classical. I like to mix it up a bit with a little bit of fashion, some sensuality, a pinch of timelessness and a dash of documentary, all thoroughly blended with pixel-bending technology! My greatest strengths: My sense of humour, my ability to relate to people and make them feel relaxed. My attention to detail. I'm a listener. I use technology to create compelling images. I have been in photography: 25-odd years, but I started my photography business in 2006, deciding that it was time to convert my skills into a business. How I got started in photography: A friend introduced me to photography in the days of film and darkrooms. In 2005 I was asked at the last minute to photograph a relative's wedding because the photographer didn't turn up. The crisis was averted and the bride's big day rescued. After that, I knew I could do a professional job and by then my commercial skills were well developed after spending many years in the software business, so it was a matter of bringing the two together. In 2006 I formed Streetlife Photography and did a handful of weddings. In 2007 I did my first wedding in the USA and since then the wedding business has grown steadily. My photographic skills: I work with the bride to help her turn her vision for her day into reality. I plan meticulously and keep in touch with her until the week before her wedding then I meet with her and her fiancé again to go over the fine details. I take care of all the organisational stuff and the technical stuff too throughout the day. After the day, I work closely with her to develop the album design and all other items we've agreed. My job is to ensure she is completely happy with everything I produce for her. My personality: Easy, relaxed but professional, trusting, focused. Geographic areas I cover: Mainly Scotland, but essentially anywhere the bride wants me to be. Venues I frequently attend: Edinburgh generally, Oxenfoord Castle in Midlothian, Aberdour Castle in Fife, the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh. Edinburgh is a fantastic place to have a wedding, particularly in the City, but you have to be prepared for share your day with the public. I found inspiration from: Photographs, not photographers. People, places, weather, climate, social contexts, travel, sports, activities, lives, life events, children, doing a good job, being told I did a good job. Success in photography: People pay me to shoot their weddings! Isn't that enough?! I'm less motivated by qualifications and winning competitions than maybe I should be, but winning comps requires a different approach to photography than the business end. Winning comps may gain me the respect of my peers, but it doesn't pay the bills! Photographic training: Self-taught; in the sense that I read books, learn from others and try stuff out to see what works and what doesn't. I have a broad education and have had a number of careers in my life so far; engineer, professional footballer, software designer, salesman, businessman and now also photographer. My interests outside photography: IT and software (it also pays the bills), technology trends generally, sport; football, golf, tennis, skiing. Reading novels and Scottish/English history. Major events: Married, divorced, 2 kids (both now in their 20's). Spent 3 years in Australia and made many good friends down under. Played football for Scotland when I was 18 (not professional at that time), played Vollyball for Scotland too. Testimonials: Visit my website to read them. Why I like the SWPP: The community. Tagline: Just Imagine... Future plans: Develop the photography business and the other two businesses I run; a business consulting company (IT, business process, etc) and a holiday lettings company. And finally: Don't stare at the sun, you'll go blind!
