Getting Started by Giving Back

Some charities even have us set up a backdrop and have us do family portraits at a specified location (for instance at the Humane Society) and we generate the fundraising right on site with their staff members assisting in the process. Ultimately, no matter what charity you can figure out some kind of reciprocal arrangement.

What if I can’t do a press release?

No matter. You should be able to find a listing of non for profits in your area and just direct mail to whomever is in charge of publicity/marketing. This will get your information into the right hands. A simple letter is sufficient and we would include a brochure of our work. Make sure your website is also up to date and showcases your talents!

There are many more ways in which your studio can benefit from donating its services to charities. We have barely scratched the surface. But as you can see, the results can be amazing for them and for you. Beyond any monetary gain, remember… by helping those in need, you will ultimately be the winner. You will appreciate how lucky you are to be healthy, happy and talented. You will appreciate how lucky you are to have children who can run and play and pets that enrich your life. Most importantly, you will appreciate your place in your community and your immense value as a photographer and humanitarian – no money can buy that.

Photo Quote: Photography is a system of visual editing. At bottom, it is a matter of surrounding with a frame a portion of one's cone of vision, while standing in the right place at the right time. Like chess, or writing, it is a matter of choosing from among given possibilities, but in the case of photography the number of possibilities is not finite but infinite. - John Szarkowski
