Customers will simply resist spending £££ on a snapshot, they will however be far more tempted to part with their hard earned cash if it is a beautiful crafted polished professional looking portrait.

Further more they are more likely to invest in a larger wall image if the image is of a high standard. So consider sticking to these simple rules to take your photography and sales to the next level.

Here are just a few helpful tips -

Choice of clothing is essential

Solid coloured cloth of a dark colour is usually the best

Avoid bold patterns and logos as these compete with the primary focal point, which in a portrait is the mask of the face.

Take into consideration how the colour scheme of the clothing matches the skin tones.

Regardless of skin type, you should stray from wearing extremely bright colours. Neon coloured clothing is not recommended for family portraits. Likewise, outfits featuring bright shades of red and purple or those made of reflective material are best left at home on the day of your photo shoot.

In-group portraits the colours and design of clothing should coordinate.

No sleeveless clothing in the head and shoulders portraits.

Choose timeless clothing, which is simple and classic - and never goes out of style!

Women photographed in full length should usually wear longer skirts, pants, or dark stockings to keep the viewer's eye from being directed toward the lower extremities and away from the face.

A pre-shoot consultation with your subject is the ideal opportunity to advice on what clothes to wear
