Epson accompanies Steve McCurry as he tells his (and our) story

23/12/11

Steve McCurry has again chosen Epson to help share with enthusiasts his new photographic story, which this time concerns Italy. This renews the encounter with Epson Italia, a participant in McCurry’s Rome exhibition that features the reproduction of his greatest photos, beginning with the Afghan girl; the synthesis of an extraordinary, thirty-year journey.

Rome, December 2011: Epson accompanies Steve McCurry, one of the great masters of photography of our century, not only in his New York studio, where he has been using Epson technology for years, but also in his big exhibition in Rome, Steve McCurry: a collection of over 200 shots dedicated to the 30 most intense years of his career, including the more striking images of his travels in Italy.

Once again, Epson has joined this great photographer in printing more than 50 of his photos, among which are the greatest in the exhibition. This collaboration has seen Steve McCurry and Epson, through the auspices of the Berné Art Studio, engaged in an intense work of painstakingly studying the proofing sheet, doing detailed checks, colour adjustments and fine editing before arriving at the final prints, which, according to the photographer himself, enabled him to find and reproduce the same colours and emotions he saw and remembers from the moment the image was captured.

To recount all of this, the exhibition will include screenings of a video called "Epson presents Steve McCurry, Making of - 2011", a description of this fascinating adventure, where, in addition to McCurry’s photographs, the technology, Epson inks and papers take a starring role. All of these provide a concrete and social dimension to the story told by the images and engage visitors on a uniquely emotional level.

"We have a long history of collaboration with the great artists of photography”, said Massimo Pizzocri, CEO of Epson Italia. “This is evidenced by over a decade of Epson involvement here. We are proud that one of the great masters of photography of our century, Steve McCurry, uses Epson technology to capture his extraordinary images and we are happy to support him in this new exhibition that he has brought to Italy.
