Training courses go from strength to strength

04/06/08

Since Morag MacDonald’s busy master-class at the SWPP convention in January her courses have gone from strength. Now in her new studio in the heart of the Paintworks (Bristol’s dynamic new creative quarter) Morag offers courses on Location lighting and urban portraiture, studio lighting and digital processing as well as her ever popular courses on wedding photography.

As well as the confidence boost that delegates look for they also reported in leaving with so many ideas that they quickly put into practice and used on their work.

A recent delegate wrote: ‘From the moment I drove into The Paintworks and spotted the studio I felt inspired - the whole area has an amazingly creative feel which certainly sets the mood.......I felt fired up an all set to go!

‘I loved going through negative and positive fill - tips on lighting are just invaluable - lighting makes the difference every time! It was also great to work with reflections - find that wonderful rim of light on the models profile - and capture catch lights in the eyes. I really made a point of that with the children yesterday which was great - it’s being aware and knowing what to look for..…’

Her ever popular 2 day wedding course is fast paced and informative with 2 new dates announced; the next course is on the 9th and 10th of July, Morag say’s that bookings are coming in, but this course still has availability.

In August Morag is offering a wedding refresher course for a mid season booster! The dates for her ‘Mid-season wedding booster’ are the 19th - 20th August. This 2 day intensive course is aimed at those who want a boost to their late seasons wedding shoots with a bit of energy and new ideas.

This year Morag started offering a series of back to back one-day workshops. This way delegates may just book the days most relevant to them (with a 10% discount when 2 or more of the 3 days are booked). The next courses are:

Location lighting and urban portraiture: On this one day workshop Morag guides delegates in selecting backgrounds, working with natural light, seeing the quality and direction of the light, negative as well as positive fill and off camera flash for dramatic outdoor shots. This day is intensive and hands on, both morning and afternoon sessions with different models. Tues 22nd of July - £220 (+Vat).

Studio lighting workshop is suited to both the studio photographer and those wishing to work with a portable studio in clients homes. Morag steps you through the basics of working with studio lights, high and low key backgrounds, lighting ratios and finally a chance to do some really creative shots. Again 2 models are on hand and images with this article were all taken during workshops. Studio lighting runs on Wed 23rd July – £200 (+Vat).

Digital processing is a new one day workshop that may be taken independently or in conjunction with the location or studio lighting workshops (with a 10% reduction when 2 or mare days are booked). This is aimed specifically at wedding and portrait photographers and covers file handling, Photoshop techniques and creating deeper motive prints. Thurs 24th July - £180 (+Vat).
