Durst provides a choice of solutions for the production of Photo Books on its stand at Focus 2007

While billions of digital images are now being captured, less and less images are being printed, and those that are, are subject to an endless dropping of price. This, of course, reduces margins and can even threaten survival as well as making financing future investment extremely difficult.

A solution to halting the declining margins is to offer value added products to your customers and one that is rapidly growing in popularity is the Photo Book. Durst can now offer a choice of equipment for the production of photo books and other value added photo products and services. These value added products will help to generate more printing business as well as retain existing customers and win back others.

Photo Book Station
Demonstrated on Durst’s stand at Focus, the Photo Book Station comprises all the major components that are required to produce photo albums/books from digitally printed double pages on photo paper. It is an ideal addition to a Durst Theta lab system, for example.

The system offers a great deal of flexibility of design, allowing the operator to produce books from small up to a maximum of 50 x 100cm (20 x 40”) open book size. They can vary from a few pages to 50 or more, simple double page spreads to multiple foldouts. Covers can range from simply photos mounted on board, to elaborate designs with embossed leather, laminated photos, synthetics, metal or anything else you might think of.

The Photo Book Station only requires a one person operation, and will typically produce 25 to 30 albums per day with an average page quantity of between 20 to 30 pages A4 size.

Automatic Photo Book Station
An alternative to the Photo Book Station is the Automatic Photo Book Station, which is a modular book binding system designed for medium to high volume album production. It will handle book sizes up to 45 x 35cm (18 x 14”) and offers a production capability of between 12 and 24 books per hour.

The modular design allows the individual to tailor the system to meet their production capacity requirements. The basic module comprises the book mounting and gluing station and the optional modules are an automatic creasing and folding machine and an auto-feeder. The fast and easy to use system is supplied with a starter kit of consumables – glue, cardboard sheets, tail cup and album covers of different sizes.

Jota
The brand new Jota photo book production system is a complete solution comprising the hardware, software and consumables required to create attractive and stylish photo products. Jota photo books are of the highest image quality printed by 8 colour inkjet, and have a unique design feature which enables the books to open fully so that opposite pages lie perfectly flat. This allows the images and graphics to cross pages without the loss of sections of the image.

Jota’s unique versatility offers a vast range of different applications including; photo books/albums in a variety of standard and bespoke sizes, double sided greeting cards, post cards, invitation cards, sales catalogues/brochures and, of course, normal prints in photo realistic quality too!

The complete system consists of easy to use album design software, a colour inkjet printing device that allows front and back printing, a built-in XY cutter, a book binding device and an extensive range of specially designed consumables at very attractive costs. The system is designed to provide high levels flexibility and automation whilst reducing production times and labour costs.

Jota is the ideal system for small and medium operations such as Minilabs, Photoshops, Studio Labs and Professional Photographers who are looking to create new, profitable business opportunities by offering added value products and services to their clients.
