Harman Technology Limited’s appearance at this year’s Focus On Imaging
looks set to be on one of the most exciting ever for the company. Having
already announced that it’s inkjet brand Harman Photo will be giving
away 2,500 free sample packs of its new Gloss FB AL Warmtone paper and
that sister brand Ilford Photo will be relaunching its Process and Print
service at Europe’s largest imaging event, Harman have now revealed that
they are also planning to stage a unique exhibition.
Sponsored by the company’s specialist monochrome business, Ilford Photo,
the exhibition of work by Larry Herman is viewable at Stand E60, Hall 9
throughout the course of the event (running from 10am on Sunday 24th
February through to 5pm on Wednesday 27th February 2008).
Larry, whose prints can be found in many public and private collections,
is perhaps one of the most acclaimed social photographers in the world
today. His work enjoys international acclaim and has led to him winning
several awards as well as grants from the Ford Foundation and the
International Fund for Concerned Photography in New York. He was also a
finalist in the International Fund for Documentary Photography, San
Francisco.
This particular exhibition, which will start at Focus before going on
national tour, is entitled Waged London and represents two years of
Larry’s work. The shots document and acknowledge the working lives of
millions, who, through their often low-paid labour in areas such as
healthcare, transportation, manufacturing and tourism, underpin the
entire economy of the Capital.
Speaking of the exhibition, Larry said: “I am genuinely excited by the
chance to exhibit some of my work in progress from Waged London at Focus
on Imaging 2008. Some 30,000 people pass through the event; all of
different ages, interests, backgrounds and occupations. The opportunity
to showcase true silver halide prints to such a large and diverse
audience is great news, not just for me, but for the wider medium of
monochrome photography.”
Also commenting on the event, Ilford Photo Marketing Director, Howard
Hopwood, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Larry. By helping to
stage his exhibition, we feel we are entering into the true spirit of
Focus on Imaging. We hope it will inspire people in their own
photographic endeavours, demonstrate what is truly achievable with
Ilford Photo products and show how there’s still an important place for
analogue alongside digital photography.”
