Rental Health for photographers - part 2 of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

A rental firm based in East Sussex yet delivering nationwide, covering not just camera equipment but also lighting, offers a generous 15% discount on every hire plus three days for the price of two over bank holidays. To increase efficiency it has recently moved its courier service to UPS without increasing its courier charges, and is also trialing a drop-off service. Since the beginning of the year the hire firm has additionally been offering photographers Bowens lighting, plus Lastolite backgrounds with a range of different images for backdrops.

In terms of cameras, according to MD Guy Thatcher some of its most rented kit includes the likes of the 4k resolution Canon EOS-1DC - hired specifically to social photographers who want to try out high-end movie making alongside stills -- plus the Fujifilm X-Pro1 compact system camera.

"The still frames you can pull off the Canon 1DC are very good indeed," raves Guy. "Blowing a 4K image shot at 24fps up to A3 is not a problem. And, shooting at 24fps gives photographers the potential to capture shots they might not get otherwise. Also, these days it's possible that social photographers might have a wedding client who wants both stills and video. Handling wise the 1DC is much the same as the 1DX."

Guy adds that he's found rental demand has also increased for Fuji's X-Pro1 for use at events, "because of its compact size, virtually no noise and low light performance." As a nod toward the growing popularity of compact system cameras, will also be stocking 'baby' Zeiss lenses in both Sony E mount and Fujfilm X mount upon release. "I see the higher end mirror-less market just increasing, because the quality is so good. And next year we'll see full frame mirror-less compacts I believe."

Future predictions for forthcoming kit include a high-end Canon to match the might of Nikon's D800 in the third quarter of this year, which HireaCamera will naturally be stocking, plus a 55mm Zeiss super DSLR lens reportedly coming out in September to fulfill the promise of near medium format quality from your DSLR, according to Guy.

Further deals offered by the company include what it terms 'Flyaway Thursdays', whereby whatever stock is not already booked out for the coming weekend is offered at a discounted rate, whilst it will also deliver kit already booked out over a weekend a day early if it's sat on the shelf on the Wednesday - so generously providing an extra day's hire free of charge.
