What we shoot, and more importantly how we shoot it, is what defines us as photographers! Our quest should be, I believe, to tell our 'story' and realise our own 'vision' in a unique way....When imagery comes from our inner creative soul that's when it sings.
Photography is a very lonely, often back-biting, and therefore insular profession. It appears that the cake we all compete for is ever decreasing and we must fight harder to maintain our slice.
So we need to compete more, we need an advantage to our own business model - I can assure you that if you compete on price alone not only is it a recipe for disaster for your own business but it is also another nail into the coffin of the industry I love!
The secret to a successful and sustainable photographic business is really very simple. Product better than most, and process, infrastructure and service second to none.
Think of it this way. If we all shoot very, very similar things and our services are similar what is there to promote our services other than to compete on price. I advocate not only going the extra mile on customer service but going the extra mile when it comes to creating our imagery and continually developing our skill. We need to give our client our best product possible and to make that product stand out from the crowd.
Now I don't know if your made the same way as I am but I constantly need to push and develop myself - I need to be inspired! I want to know more and see more and understand more about the craft that I love.
