I will pose people to look as natural as possible whilst still making sure that they appear to best advantage. I tell the story of the day, alongside portraits. My greatest strengths: My greatest strength really is that people tend to like and to trust me within a short space of time. They are soon willing to try new things knowing that I'm trying to get the very best for them. Photographs aren't bad either! I have been in photography: I've been a photographer for over 25 years. I love all forms; Landscapes, architecture, water, people, macro and sport. How I got started in photography: I got started as a professional as a result of my Mum dying suddenly. It made me realise that we don't have all the time that we might believe. It was time to do something that I really have a passion for and had been thinking about for years - or I might never have the chance. I chose weddings and portraits as I get on well with people and the timing fitted. I work for Cancer Research UK as an Area Volunteer Manager full time; and love that too. Great cause. Week end work would fit that nicely. I started taking pictures at every wedding at my local church for practise. It gave me the basics of the speed needed, and the dedication needed, to make sure that someone's special day was captured with equal care. It was through this practise that one of my neighbours recommended me for a real wedding of my own. I loved it! There is nothing like the excitement of being involved, the pressure buzz to get the very best pictures, the drive not to miss even the smallest detail. Guests at that wedding said that they had never enjoyed being photographed so much and that my easy style was nothing like anything they'd ever experienced before. I only take around 8 - 10 weddings a year and almost all have come as a result of recommendation. As a result of doing weddings, I was taken on as a photography trainer for the Jessops Training Academy. I adore training too. From one session a month originally, I'm now doing as many as I'm free for - sometimes on Sundays. My photographic skills: I get on very well with people from all walks of life. I know the technical side of photography, but ensure that it is the artistic side that controls the pictures. I take the view that there is a solution for everything if you look hard enough. I'm an ideas person in all my interests. I'm good at listening and "hearing" all the unsaid stuff that people often really mean. My personality: I'm lively and friendly I'm reliable and honest. I am also discreet about sensitive issues that people often discuss with me. Geographic areas I cover: All of the UK . Would travel anywhere else as have valid passport. Venues I frequently attend: I love the quaint and quirky as well as the more imposing Stately Home type settings. I really liked Stansted Park with it's own unusual church. I found inspiration from: The people I'm working for at the time inspire me most. From them I'll start creating for their wishes in my own way. Outside of that, I was really inspired by the team at the Annabel Williams Studio. Success in photography: I've won one competition run through the Practical Photography Magazine. That was many year's ago and a wonderful prize - helicopter flight over London, a lens and a day as the VIP guest at an Air show. Photographic training: I completed the "all about Weddings" course at the Annabel Williams studio. I now teach myself. I cover all the basics of handling your first DSLR camera and the intermediate course and am just about to start teaching "Starting with Weddings" - all with Jessops Training Academy. My interests outside photography: I play the violin and cook pickles, preserves, jams and marmalades plus looking after my family. Testimonials: There are several REAL examples of people's comments on my web pages for my wedding and portrait photography. The Jessops Training Academy holds all the feedback forms from my talks. I'm chuffed to say that most of them have given me wonderful comments. In either case, the people have said that they'll gladly speak to anyone for me in recommendation. Why I like the SWPP: The fact that it offers training and mentoring as well as making you look more professional to clients. Future plans: I plan to grow my wedding and portrait photography and the training side in order to become a full time professional in around 5 years. I already have a great assistant and plans to teach at a French holiday destination. I need to concentrate now on getting more wedding bookings. And finally: Feel free to call up for anything that you'd like to know.
